We had our Cooner Family Christmas on Saturday. It was awesome. All of the Lay Family, except Jeff, were able to make it down to Houston to celebrate this year! We missed you Jeff but understand.
It was so nice to have everyone together and also Celebrate Susan's milestone birthday. We ate alot and laughed alot. Madeline got alot of awesome gifts too. Thank you to everyone who got her gifts! You were all very generous! And, it was nice to see the Fart Clock make it back into the White Elephant pool!
Sunday was equally nice. Susan and Maurice spent the night with us so we had breakfast together before they left to go home. I went and had a pedi/mani then home to take a LONG nap with Madeline. I started getting a cold or something yesterday so I slept really hard! My friends and family were very generous to me for my Birthday as well! Thank you all so much! We went to eat sushi last night and it was super good!
I am back at work today and tomorrow, then off to North Texas! Madeline is really excited to go to Papa's House and see her cousins. Every time we mention Santa coming to Papa's house for her, she thinks he is gonna leave her toys in the playroom upstairs! So cute she is!
If I don't get a chance to post again this week, we would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas! Be safe and lots of joy!
I looked at my calendar yesterday and realized my surgery is getting really close. I am TERRIFIED. I have never been put to sleep and am so afraid I won't wake up. Honestly, I think I need a valium now.....
Shawn is being wonderfully supportive and caring.
I hope you have a great day!
My favorite memory of something funny with you is the DUCK! I swear, I still giggle when I think of that!
You are an awesome sister and wish you lived closer! I miss you!

We entered the world of temper tantrums yesterday. We have seen a little inkling of them here and there, the defiance setting in, the insistence to do only what she wants....but yesterday took the cake.
No longer are time outs helpful, they just ensure screaming and writhing on the floor.
After a 20 minute battle to get her to BRUSH HER TEETH, I gave in. Took her in my arms and calmed her down. She quickly fell asleep (2 hours before normal nap time) and our morning plans were sidelined.
I am not so sure how I will handle this. She is usually so agreeable for the most part, or can be bribed. Yesterday nothing would work. I mean nothing.
That was tantrum #1.
Tantrum #2 was brushing the hair. She didn't want us to brush it, but wouldn't do it herself. We said fine, no need to brush it at all, and then the meltdown happened. This time we both walked away, she continued to scream.
Tantrum #3, going to bed. At this point, we are both at our wits end. This is NOT our child. What happened to her? Where did she go?
Then, once she did go to sleep, she was apparently having bad dreams most of the night. Screaming out in her sleep.
I suppose this is what everyone has been warning me about...how the 3's are worst than the 2's. Time to start searching for new ways to deal with this stage! Any advice is welcome!
We have been trying to talk up Santa for awhile now. She is so afraid of him, she said she didn't want anything from Santa. I think it's because we kept saying she had to ask Santa for things. Well, I finally talked her into writing him a letter last night. Here's what she asked for......
wait for it......
Socks and 3 dollars!
I have no idea where she got that from, at all. We kept saying, don't you want some more coloring books. "No, I already have this one here". Everything we suggested she was like, "No, I already have that". At least my child is not spoiled...yet.
The Katy Tigers are in the playoffs for division 5A (whatever that means) and we went to the game on Saturday night. It had turned cold and drizzled on us but that did not dampen the fun! Madeline had a blast clapping and cheering along with the "Katy Nation". She was cheering for the cheerleaders, the marching band and the RED GUYS!!! LOL! She had a blast as did we and everyone else around us watching her. Poor Shawn, she never wanted to be sitting, although there is very little of that at a Katy Tigers game anyway.
Seriously, this is the real Friday Night Lights. We walked up the path to see a SEA OF RED. You could tell we were out of place in our non red gear. I have never seen so much red in one place. They are darn serious about their football too. You could tell they thought (know) they are the best. I know nothing about football except touchdowns, so I just had to people watch. And what a sight it was. All in all though, its a real pleasure to see parents, grandparents and former students still so entrenched in this team. School spirit abounded at every corner. I do have to say, it's easy to get caught up in it though. Too bad it wasn't baseball, I would have enjoyed it more. But alas, this is Texas....where football is religion. And it was like going to church last night.
Anyway, it was an experience not only for Madeline, but something I haven't been witness to since we left Alabama.
Here is my little cheerleader in her Tiger Paws!
So, lately Madeline is all about helping me in the kitchen. I soon found out she only wants to lick the beaters and the spoon. I have been baking alot of sweets for a bake sale we had on Monday.....
Anyway, I did find her a really cute apron that she will get for Christmas.
But, back to her loving to cook. She was getting out of the bathtub the other night and likes to do it herself. She also likes to talk through it...you know, Right foot over, left foot over, etc. Well, she looked at me as I was NOT calling out the instructions and said....
Wait for it......
Mom, what are the ingredients? LMAO, she wanted the instructions but called them ingredients!
OH, and on that subject, she loves watching Rachel Ray. Maybe I have a future RR on my hands!!!
